The role
We are recruiting a CNC Turner on behalf of a well-established precision engineering business based in Ely, Cambridgeshire. This is a permanent opportunity working with twin spindle and Y-axis turning centres, producing high-quality precision components to tight tolerances.
The business is open to candidates at varying levels of experience — from proven CNC setters through to senior operators with the right attitude and aptitude to develop their skills further. Main responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC turning centres including twin spindle and Y-axis machines
- Work from technical drawings and specifications to produce precision components to tight tolerances
- Carry out first-off and in-process inspection to ensure components meet quality requirements
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for each job
- Perform routine maintenance and checks on machinery
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation
- Keep your working area clean, safe, and organised
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures and quality standards
Skills/experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner or senior CNC Operator within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment
- Experience operating or setting CNC turning centres — twin spindle and Y-axis experience is highly desirable
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances
- Good knowledge of tooling, materials, and machining processes
- Experience using inspection equipment and measuring instruments
- Apprenticeship trained or equivalent qualification (desirable)
- A methodical, quality-focused approach with strong attention to detail
- Motivated, reliable, and eager to develop skills further
Salary & working hours
- Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience — salary will reflect current level and be reviewed as skills develop
- Hours: Monday to Friday, Basic daytime hours
