CNC Turner (manual)
Location: Biggleswade, Bedfordshire Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience
The role
We are recruiting a CNC Turner on behalf of a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity for an experienced machinist who is confident operating both CNC and manual lathes to produce precision components to tight tolerances.
You will be working as part of a skilled machine shop team, producing a variety of turned components from technical drawings to the highest standards of quality and accuracy. This is a hands-on role that would suit someone who takes real pride in their craft, has a methodical approach to their work, and is looking to join a stable, reputable employer for the long term.
Main responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes to produce precision turned components
- Work from technical drawings and specifications to machine parts to tight tolerances
- Carry out first-off and in-process inspection to ensure components meet quality requirements
- Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds for each job
- Perform routine maintenance and checks on machinery
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation
- Keep your working area clean, safe, and organised at all times
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures and quality standards
Skills/experience
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner, with the ability to operate manual lathes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances
- Experience setting up and programming CNC lathes
- Strong knowledge of tooling, materials, and machining processes
- Good understanding of inspection techniques and measuring equipment
- Apprenticeship trained or equivalent qualification (desirable)
- A methodical, quality-focused approach with strong attention to detail
- Reliable and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Salary & working hours
- Salary: Up to £42,000 per annum, dependent on experience
- Hours: Daytime hours, Monday to Friday with an early finish on Fridays
