CAD technician
Location: St Ives Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 - 16:30
The role
We are recruiting a CAD Technician on behalf of a well-established specialist manufacturing business producing high-end bespoke pieces for prestigious commercial and residential projects. This is a pivotal role sitting at the heart of the technical and production process, responsible for translating design concepts from architects and interior designers into precise, production-ready technical drawings and manufacturing information.
Working closely with the production manager, estimator, and external design teams, you will own the technical drawing process from concept through to shop floor output. A relevant background within the industry is essential for this role — candidates without it are unlikely to be considered.
Main responsibilities
- Create highly detailed technical drawings of bespoke items for commercial and residential projects
- Translate design concepts from architects and interior designers into accurate, production-ready drawings
- Produce manufacturing information including CNC files and cutting lists for the in-house production team
- Create bills of materials and manage material ordering in collaboration with suppliers
- Liaise with suppliers to source materials to specification, on time, and within budget
- Work closely with the production manager and estimator throughout the project lifecycle
- Collaborate with interior designers and architects to ensure design intent is accurately captured and achievable in production
- Operate CNC machinery where required, or provide CNC-ready files for the production team
- Maintain drawing registers and ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date
Skills/experience
Essential:
- A relevant background within the industry — this is a requirement for the role
- Proven experience producing detailed technical CAD drawings in a related trade or manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, design concepts, and specifications
- Experience producing manufacturing information such as cutting lists and bills of materials
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in technical output
- Able to manage multiple projects and liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Good communication skills — comfortable working with production teams, estimators, architects, and designers
Desirable:
- Knowledge of CNC machinery and the ability to produce CNC-ready files
- Experience ordering materials and liaising with specialist suppliers
- Familiarity with high-end bespoke manufacturing for commercial or residential environments
Salary & working hours
- Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 - 16:30
