The role

We are recruiting a Project Engineer on behalf of a well-established engineering and manufacturing business based in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. This is a cradle-to-grave project management role, responsible for driving assigned projects forward from initial handover through to successful completion and customer acceptance.

You will be the central point of contact for all project-related information — internally and externally — managing multiple projects concurrently whilst maintaining strong communication with customers, suppliers, and all internal departments including engineering, operations, finance, and sales. This is a role that requires tenacity, organisation, and a calm, methodical approach to delivering on time and to budget. Occasional travel to customer and project sites will be required.

  • Act as the central source of information for all project-related matters, both internally and externally
  • Maintain open communication with all stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitor project progress and highlight corrective actions to managers when required
  • Ensure all departments are aware of their deliverables and remain within agreed budgets
  • Participate in handover and production meetings, assessing risks and holding functions accountable for delivery
  • Attend factory acceptance tests with customers and ensure successful completion
  • Record and respond to customer delays where necessary to mitigate impact on the business
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers throughout the project
  • Visit customer and project sites during installation of larger projects and for technical meetings when required

Skills/experience

Essential:

  • Project management experience within an engineering environment
  • Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office — Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to understand and produce Gantt charts
  • An engineering background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a clear, polite telephone and email manner
  • Calm, organised, and tenacious — able to manage deadlines across multiple concurrent projects
  • Accurate, thorough, and able to prioritise effectively
  • Self-starter requiring minimal supervision, but equally comfortable as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Experience with machinery or turnkey line projects
  • Engineering degree or project management qualification such as APM or IPMA
  • Basic CAD skills
  • Understanding of contract law and INCO terms
  • ERP/MRP system knowledge
