Materials Solutions Lead

We’re recruiting a Materials Solutions Lead on behalf of a globally recognised advanced materials business headquartered in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. This is a full-time, permanent position and a senior, commercially significant role for an experienced technical professional who wants to own complex, high-value materials opportunities from first enquiry through to close.

This is a role that sits at the intersection of deep materials expertise and commercial delivery. You’ll take full ownership of the most complex opportunities in the business — understanding customer technical requirements, shaping the right solution, coordinating specialists across technical, sourcing and quality functions, and driving the deal to a successful conclusion. You’ll also play a key part in developing colleagues across the Materials Solutions team, including the Associate Lead. • Understanding and interpreting customers’ technical requirements and translating them into deliverable materials solutions
  • Directing and coordinating technical, sourcing and quality colleagues to build and deliver each solution

  • Partnering with account managers to provide technical and commercial expertise on their complex customer opportunities
  • Contributing to Goodfellow’s largest and most strategically significant materials projects
  • Supporting the growth and development of colleagues across the Materials Solutions team, including the Associate Lead and specialist roles

Skills/Experience:

  • STEM degree in materials science, engineering, chemistry or a closely related discipline — essential
  • Substantial experience in technical or solution sales, applications engineering or a commercial role within advanced materials, engineering or a comparable technical B2B environment — essential
  • A proven track record of managing complex, technically-led sales cycles and closing high-value deals
  • Strong commercial judgement across pricing, margin and negotiation
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate technical specialists to deliver customer solutions
  • Breadth across multiple materials families such as metals, alloys, ceramics, glasses, polymers or composites — desirable
  • Exposure to microfabrication and/or materials testing and analysis — desirable
  • Experience using Salesforce or a comparable CRM — desirable
  • Experience in procurement or supplier sourcing — desirable
  • Experience integrating new capabilities or teams — desirable
