The Role: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established and growing manufacturing business based in Biggleswade. This is a fantastic opportunity for a mechanically biased Mechanical Maintenance Engineer seeking a stable, Monday–Friday daytime role (no-shift pattern) within a fast-paced production environment.
The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will play a key role in maintaining, repairing and improving a range of specialist production machinery to ensure maximum uptime and operational efficiency. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity (37.5 hours per week, day shift). The company operates within a precision manufacturing sector and is known for its investment in equipment, processes and long-term staff development.
Location: Biggleswade
Position: Permanent | Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 37.5 hours (Day Shift)
Main Responsibilities:
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime
• Respond to breakdowns and conduct root cause analysis
• Maintain hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems
• Support tooling changes and machine adjustments where required
• Work closely with production teams to maintain operational efficiency
• Update and maintain accurate maintenance records
• Assist in continuous improvement projects
• Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety standards
Skills/Experience:
• Strong mechanical maintenance background
• Experience within a manufacturing or production environment
• Sound knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical systems
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Confident fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Proactive, reliable and able to work independently
• Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge (desirable)
• Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) preferred
Salary & Working Hours:
Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
Full-time permanent position
37.5 hours per week
Monday to Friday – Day shift (no weekend work)
