The role

We are recruiting a Senior Packaging Designer on behalf of a well-established, packaging manufacturer based local to Huntingdon. This is a senior, high-ownership role at the heart of the business's new product development function. You will take full responsibility for the approval and development of constructional designs, materials, and artworks, guiding clients through a structured design approval process while managing ten to twenty live projects at any one time. You will also supervise the CAD team, drive continuous improvement across design and approval processes, and support the sales team in closing bespoke packaging opportunities.


Main responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for NPD, including constructional design approval, material selection, and artwork sign-off
  • Guide clients through a structured six-step design and approval process, from initial CAD through to final artwork
  • Create optimal CAD drawings and liaise with technical coordinators to produce samples in proposed materials
  • Maximise profitability through efficient manufacturing laydowns within machine limitations
  • Carry out deckle optimisation for special makings and support drop testing awareness (e.g. ISTA3a)
  • Supervise the Commercial-Technical Specialist and drive efficiencies within the CAD department and approval processes
  • Liaise with the factory to ensure ease of manufacture, speed, and smooth production running
  • Support the sales team in closing bespoke packaging opportunities ranging from £5,000 to £1,000,000
  • Maintain accurate project records within the CRM system
  • Encourage the design team to attend relevant exhibitions and training to develop skills and knowledge
  • Adhere to all company policies relating to health and safety, quality, and management

Skills/experience

  • Senior-level packaging design experience — essential, preferably within ecommerce packaging
  • Specialist knowledge of the packaging medium relevant to this role is highly desirable and will be a key factor in shortlisting
  • Advanced CAD skills, ideally with IMPACT software
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Strong technical knowledge of material selection and transit performance requirements
  • Commercially aware with experience supporting sales and managing client relationships at a senior level
  • Confident communicating with directors, owners, and blue-chip clients
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to manage a large volume of concurrent projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Clean driving licence preferred
