Quality assurance manager
Location: Cambridge Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, dependent on experience
The role
We are recruiting a Quality Assurance Manager on behalf of a well-established, Cambridge-based designer and manufacturer of specialist engineering products supplying customers across a wide range of industrial and scientific applications worldwide. This is a standalone senior role — with no direct reports — reporting directly to the CEO and supported by a wider group QA function.
You will take full ownership of the quality assurance function, covering ISO 9001 compliance, regulatory adherence, customer quality governance, and supplier quality management. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced quality professional who is self-driven, comfortable operating independently, and ready to make a genuine impact within a well-regarded engineering business.
Main responsibilities
- Maintain ISO 9001 certification and lead the business through an upcoming external audit
- Develop new QMS documentation and review and revise existing policies, procedures, and records
- Guide and support all departments in adhering to QMS processes and procedures, providing training and coaching as required
- Identify and map all relevant regulations applicable to the business, including EU RoHS, WEEE, POPs, PPWR, Cyber Resilience Act, LVD, EMC Directive, UKCA, US TSCA, and China RoHS
- Ensure relevant departments adhere to applicable regulatory requirements and identify training needs to support company-wide compliance
- Serve as the accountable party for quality governance, working across sales, engineering, supply chain, and production
- Take primary accountability for field quality issues — implement 5-Why analysis, develop recurrence prevention measures, and issue formal 8D reports to customers where required
- Evaluate and monitor suppliers to secure consistently high-quality production materials
- Work alongside engineering, supply chain, and production teams to drive continuous improvement in supplier quality
- Ensure health and safety compliance in collaboration with HR
Skills/experience
- Solid experience in a quality assurance role within a technical manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and QMS development and maintenance
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks including EU and UK product compliance requirements
- Experience with quality tools including 8D, 5-Why, fishbone diagrams, and root cause analysis
- Experience conducting or supporting internal and external audits
- Supplier evaluation and auditing experience
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills — able to influence and facilitate across all departments
- Self-driven and comfortable operating as a standalone quality function
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Salary & working hours
- Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum, dependent on experience
