Multi-skilled engineer
Location: Cambridge Job type: Permanent, full time Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
The role
We are recruiting a Multi-Skilled Engineer on behalf of a well-established manufacturing business based in Cambridge. Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you will play a key part in ensuring production equipment and systems operate efficiently, safely, and with minimal downtime.
Working across both mechanical and electrical disciplines, you will support reactive maintenance and planned preventative maintenance activities, as well as contributing to site improvement projects and equipment upgrades. This is a hands-on, varied role that will suit someone with a strong engineering background, a proactive approach, and a genuine commitment to safety and quality.
Main responsibilities
- Carry out electrical and mechanical maintenance on a wide range of production equipment
- Diagnose and repair faults quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime
- Participate in routine and planned preventative maintenance schedules
- Support site improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and installations
- Devise, fabricate, and install improvements to production machinery
- Ensure full compliance with health and safety standards and company procedures at all times
- Work collaboratively with production management teams and external contractors
Skills/experience
- A time-served engineer or equivalent qualification in engineering (electrical or multi-skilled)
- Proven experience in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills, ideally with an electrical bias
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation
- Proactive, can-do attitude with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Reliable and flexible, with a willingness to support out-of-hours maintenance when required
- Able to work under pressure, prioritise effectively, and adapt to a varied workload
Salary & working hours
- Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum
- Hours: Daytime hours, Monday to Friday
