CAD designer
Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire Job type: Permanent Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum
The role
We are recruiting a CAD Designer on behalf of a well-established business. This is a technically varied and collaborative role sitting at the heart of the design and production process, working across both technical design and repro functions to ensure timely, efficient, and high-quality output.
You will be responsible for creating technical design profiles for production, supporting the structural design team, and acting as a key bridge between design and repro. Customer service is central to everything this business does, and the successful candidate will bring that same mindset to every interaction — whether with internal teams, customers, tooling suppliers, or remote collaborators. An excellent working knowledge of Esko ArtiosCAD is essential for this role.
Main responsibilities
- Create technical design profiles for production
- Work alongside the repro team to ensure all files required for production are available when needed
- Engage with the repro team to identify correct design profiles from first stage artwork through to production
- Carry out technical pre-flight checks on die tooling requests to ensure all tooling ordered is fit for purpose
- Create layouts to maximise efficiency throughout the production process across multiple sites
- Ensure all designs sent to customers for artwork conform to a standard specification, including 3D fold angles, and are best in class
- Liaise with customers and internal teams on the production design aspects of VAVE projects
- Support the sampling and structural design teams as required
- Liaise with tooling manufacturers and suppliers on technical design aspects of live work
- Help advise the structural design team to ensure cartons are designed to the most efficient format
- Explore and recommend technical advances within the remit of the role
- Collaborate with site teams and remote designers through both physical and virtual interactions
Skills/experience
- Excellent working knowledge of Esko ArtiosCAD
- Proven experience in a technical design or packaging environment
- Strong understanding of production capabilities across multiple manufacturing sites
- Ability to carry out technical pre-flight checks and identify design issues before production
- Exceptional customer service skills and a professional approach to all interactions
- Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and adapt to a variable workload
- Creative and technical thinker with a natural aptitude for problem solving
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate remotely
- Positive and flexible attitude, with a willingness to embrace new software and ways of working
- Experienced working under pressure in a fast-moving environment
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player
Salary & working hours
- Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum
- Hours: Monday to Friday, daytime hours
