Location: Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire Job type: Temporary (ongoing) Hourly rate: £13.50 - £17.00 per hour, dependent on experience

The role

We are recruiting an IT Support Engineer on behalf of a well-established business based in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire. This is a temporary ongoing opportunity within a small, high-performing IT team, offering real scope for someone who has moved beyond a traditional service desk role and is looking to broaden their experience further.

If you have started taking ownership of technologies such as Microsoft Intune, endpoint management, or Microsoft 365 administration, this is the kind of environment where that experience will be recognised and put to good use. You will be a strong technical generalist with excellent troubleshooting skills, a customer-focused approach, and the ambition to develop across broader infrastructure and cloud technologies over time.

Main responsibilities

  • Provide first and second-line desktop, laptop, and mobile device support to users across the business
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and security groups within Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365
  • Support onboarding and offboarding activities including device deployment and account provisioning
  • Administer and support Microsoft Intune-managed devices
  • Assist with endpoint configuration, patching, and compliance management
  • Support Microsoft Teams, Exchange Online, and SharePoint Online users
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues across LAN, Wi-Fi, and remote access services
  • Maintain accurate documentation and knowledge base articles
  • Participate in technology improvement projects as required

Skills/experience

Essential:

  • A minimum of two to three years of experience in an IT support or service desk environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows 10/11, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, and Microsoft Intune
  • Experience supporting desktop, laptop, and mobile devices
  • Basic networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Wi-Fi troubleshooting
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple support requests simultaneously

Desirable:

  • Microsoft Autopilot and PowerShell scripting
  • Microsoft Teams Phone and SharePoint administration
  • VMware or Veeam Backup and Replication
  • Aruba, Cisco Meraki, or UniFi networking experience
  • Cybersecurity awareness or related certifications
  • Experience working within a Microsoft cloud-first environment

Candidates who have moved beyond pure service desk support and have begun taking ownership of technologies such as Intune, Autopilot, Microsoft 365 administration, endpoint management, or infrastructure improvement projects are particularly encouraged to apply.

Hourly rate & working hours

  • Hourly rate: £13.50 - £17.00 per hour, dependent on experience
