Production shift supervisor

The role
We are recruiting a Production Shift Supervisor on behalf of a well-established, specialist manufacturing business based in Cambridge. Operating within a highly technical, regulated manufacturing environment, this is a business where production quality and operational excellence are genuinely critical.
Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be accountable for leading and managing manufacturing operations across your assigned shift — overseeing output, quality, and efficiency targets while line managing Team Leaders and ensuring all employee relations matters are handled effectively. This is a hands-on leadership role that would suit an experienced supervisor who builds rapport easily, communicates clearly, and takes a proactive, solutions-focused approach to the challenges of a busy production environment.
Main responsibilities
- Oversee production across all areas to achieve shift output, quality, and efficiency targets
- Delegate responsibility while monitoring quality, progress, and job outcomes
- Line manage Team Leaders and ensure all employee relations matters are handled efficiently, escalating to HR and the Production Manager as required
- Allocate manpower according to production priorities and skill requirements, managing leave, sickness, and capabilities proactively
- Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives across the shift
- Assist the Production Manager in achieving company targets including on-time delivery, cost, and performance
- Ensure adherence to all customer quality standards and regulatory requirements
- Monitor manufacturing equipment and escalate issues promptly
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times, including the wearing of protective equipment
- Ensure work areas are kept clean, safe, and organised at all times
Skills/experience
- Previous experience supervising production teams in a manufacturing environment
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to build rapport quickly
- Experience in at least two of the following: manufacturing, assembly, test, electronics, or production environments
- Understanding of cleanroom operations and manufacturing controls
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Technical knowledge of manufacturing and industry standards
Salary & working hours
- Salary: £40,000 - £46,500
- Hours: Monday to Friday
