The Role: Control Panel Builder
Are you an experienced Control Panel Builder who takes pride in producing high-quality, bespoke electrical panels? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading British engineering manufacturer.
Based near St Neots, this permanent and hands-on workshop role involves building a wide variety of control panels in small-batch production — meaning no two projects are the same. You’ll work within a supportive team, collaborating closely with electrical design and test engineers to deliver precision-engineered panels used within complex automation systems.
Main Responsibilities (Control Panel Builder):
• Build and wire low-voltage control panels (110–600V AC & 24V DC)
• Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical layouts and bills of materials
• Install and terminate industrial control equipment such as:
– Circuit protection devices, relays, solenoids
– Inverters, soft starters, contactors
– HMIs and PLCs (Mitsubishi / Siemens / Allen Bradley)
• Work on junction boxes, HMI stations, MCCs and multi-door cabinets
• Fabricate and assemble panel components using workshop tools
• Carry out continuity and basic functional testing
• Maintain safe, clean and organised working practices
• Support project engineers and assist in problem-solving during build stages
Skills & Experience (Control Panel Builder):
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in an electrical panel building role
• Strong ability to read and work from detailed electrical drawings
• Skilled in crimping, ferruling, routing and wiring to a high standard
• Confident working with both AC and DC control systems
• Excellent attention to detail and workmanship standards
• Competent with hand and power tools within a workshop environment
• Able to work well independently and as part of a wider team
Desirable (Control Panel Builder):
• Electrical apprenticeship or formal qualifications
• Experience with EPLAN or similar design systems
• Background in automation or machinery manufacturing
• Knowledge of electrical testing and panel safety requirements
Salary & Working Hours (Control Panel Builder):
• Competitive hourly rate — dependent on experience
• 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Core hours between 7:30am – 5:00pm depending on day
• Overtime frequently available at 1.5x hourly pay (incl. Saturday mornings)
