Accounts Assistant


The Role:

We're recruiting an Accounts Assistant on behalf of a busy, international business located just outside St Ives, Cambridgeshire. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a salary of £25,000 – £27,500, and a genuinely varied accounts role where no two days are quite the same.

You'll be working as part of a small, close-knit accounts team, supporting the Accounts Office Manager across a broad range of day-to-day financial tasks — from processing invoices and reconciling multi-currency bank accounts through to credit control and VAT return preparation. Main Responsibilities:

  • Checking bank accounts for receipts and posting BACS, cheques and card payments to customer accounts
  • Placing customers on stop and chasing outstanding debts
  • Arranging payments and processing overseas invoices
  • Recording all money in and out of the bank and posting to customer accounts
  • Completing weekly and monthly bank reconciliations across Sterling, USD and Euro accounts
  • Processing purchase journal invoices and handling related enquiries including POs, freight and print invoices
  • Arranging weekly supplier payments and sending remittances
  • Raising and emailing UK sales invoices
  • Assisting the Accounts Office Manager with quarterly VAT return preparation
  • Supporting month-end and year-end reporting processes
  • Processing FedEx claims and payment links
  • Administering credit checks in readiness for manager authorisation
  • Dealing with debit and credit card receipts and purchase card administration
  • Responding to emails from customers and internal sales staff

Skills/Experience:

  • AAT Level 2 or above — essential
  • Maths and English GCSE at grade C/4 or above — essential
  • Proven experience in an accounts or finance role
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-check work accurately
  • Able to work to accounting deadlines and manage own workload under pressure
  • Confident communicating with suppliers and customers at all levels
  • Self-motivated, organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Full clean driving licence and own transport — desirable due to office location

Salary & Working Hours:

£25,000 – £27,500 per annum. Full-time, permanent position based just outside St Ives, Cambridgeshire.
